new-ext
By Sergey Zorin
Have you ever created a directory in a hurry to download photos from your suddenly full memory cards before a vacation? Have you found yourself wondering where did photos go months later? Was it "New Folder (3)" or "New Folder (48)"? If so, here is a solution for you. New-ext extends Windows Explorer context menu with a number of commands that create a file or a directory based on a template you configure. The new name is based on the template string and current date. For example, I find it useful to name my photo folders like "27.jun.2006", so my format string is "dd.MMM.yyyy". See format string for more detailed explanation of available options. You may find new-ext useful even if you do not need to use current date as a part of the new folder name. Just put you favorite default new folder name in single quotes as the format string.

Splitty
By Basta Computing, Inc.
The problem with files these days is disk size; floppy, zip and even CD-ROM disks have a modest capacity, especially when "small" downloads are often several megabytes in size and average ones are much larger. Even word processor files have been growing at an alarming rate, with embedded fonts and graphics bloating the file size. Splitty enables you to reliably divide large files into smaller manageable files that can be easily transferred over the Internet, or stored on floppy disks or other modest storage media. Splitty is not just another file splitter, it has been optimized for speed, security, and efficiency. A checksum algorithm verifies the length and consistency of the split file, thus safely avoiding any file corruption issues. A packaging feature is included to facilitate the distribution of split files by not requiring Splitty to recover the original file. Drag and drop the files you wish to split onto Splitty, push a button and leave the rest to Splitty.
